This custom woodshed was designed and built in a collaboration with the homeowners at their beautiful summer "camp" on Harris Bay in Cleverdale on Lake George. Materials used were chosen to coordinate with the the home.
The challenge of this project was that this farmhouse - with very little going for it on the inside - was situated on one of the most beautiful and desirable properties in Queensbury. It wasn't that it was a horrible house, but just that the interior layout and environment had no special character you might dream that an old farmhouse might have.
The project included a complete redesign of the downstairs of the house. The feng shui and flow of the entire space was reworked from scratch. Non-structural walls were moved. Wall openings and doorways were moved. The kitchen, bathroom, laundry room were all moved and a large kitchen pantry was added and many of windows were upgraded.
Crown molding was added and all window and door trim was upgraded with more detail giving the space just what was needed to add a whole lot of old farmhouse character.
The kitchen cabinets were modified, painted and reconfigured. The kitchen was transformed into a chef's dream and features a professional grade gas convection oven, rangetop and custom built hood. One large island serves as a dedicated prep area and a second huge island (finished island not shown) serves as a gathering place for family and guests. Both were custom built on site using old pallet lumber.
I designed and built this lakefront year-round "camp" in Bolton Landing in 1972. Start to finish, performing all trades (except fireplace masonry) as well as septic system and water system. Even the deck. Turnkey to customer (except painting)...$42,000. Times have changed.
